US stock market opens Monday higher

The US stock market opened Monday with gains.

The Dow Jones rose 19 points, or 0.06%, to 33,746 at 10.03 a.m. EDT (1403GMT). The S&P 500 added 11 points, or 0.25%, to 4,359.

The Nasdaq increased 66 points, or 0.49%, to 13,559 at the time.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, jumped 3.9% to 13.96. The 10-year US Treasury yield, meanwhile, fell 2.3% to 3.723%.

The dollar index shed 0.15% to 102.75, while the euro rose 0.2% to $1.0911 against the greenback.

Precious metals were in positive territory, with gold rising 0.2% to $1,925 per ounce and silver increasing 1.1% to $22.68.

Oil prices were up around 0.3%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $74.30 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $69.37.
