Mexico’s economic activity expands 3.3% in April

ISTANBUL (AA) – Mexico’s economic activity in April expanded 3.3% in real terms at an annual rate, the country’s statistical authority announced Monday.

The figure came higher than the market expectation of a 2.3% increase, after showing an annual gain of 2.7% in March.

Annually, primary and secondary activities increased 3% and 1.6%, respectively, while tertiary activities jumped 4.1%, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) said in a statement.

On a monthly basis, economic activity rose 0.8% in April, compared to the previous month.

The market estimate for the figure was to show a monthly decline of 0.2%, after economic activity contracted 0.2% in March.

Monthly, primary activities grew 1.2%, secondary activities rose 0.4%, while tertiary activities increased 1%, according to INEGI.
