Turkish stock exchange begins week looking up

Türkiye’s benchmark stock index opened Monday at 5,644.33 points, up by 1.10%, or 61.58 points, from the last week’s close.

Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index closed Friday at 5,582.75 points, surging 2.85%, with a daily trading volume of 81 billion liras ($3.2 billion).

On a weekly basis, the benchmark index gained 1.96% last week.

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was 25.3934 as of 10.20 a.m. local time (0720GMT), the euro/lira exchange rate stood at 27.6696, and a British pound traded for 32.3375 Turkish liras.

Brent crude oil was selling for around $74.51 per barrel, while the price of an ounce of gold was $1,926.35.
