The S&P 500 on Friday surged to a new record high for 2023, surpassing its previous session’s peak.
The stock exchange was up 20 points, or 0.48%, to 4,314 at 10.49 a.m. EDT, after reaching this year’s highest level of 4,322.62 points during the previous session.
The blue-chip Dow Jones rose 85 points, or 0.25%, to 33,920 at the time.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq increased 61 points, or 0.46%, to 13,330.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, added 0.44% to 13.71. The 10-year US Treasury yield, meanwhile, gained 1% to 3.750%.
The dollar index increased 0.13% to 103.48, while the euro shed 0.27% to $1.0755 against the greenback.
Precious metals were mixed, with gold trimming 0.1% to $1,963 per ounce but silver rising 0.6% to $24.41.
Oil prices gained around 0.5%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $76.41 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $71.63.
