A 19-year-old man has died and a 22-year-old woman is seriously ill in hospital after they are believed to have taken MDMA at a student drum and bass party.
Warwickshire Police said several other people were also admitted to hospital after “suffering adverse effects” from the suspected ecstasy pills in the early hours of Saturday.
The force has now issued a warning about a red hexagonal pill named “red bull”, which the group are thought to have used, and urged anyone who has taken it to seek medical help.
The group had attended a drum and bass student event at The Assembly in Leamington but police say they may not have bought the drugs onsite.
Detective Superintendent Pete Hill said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the teenager, and specialist officers are currently supporting them.
“At this time we believe the tablet taken is a red hexagonal pill named ‘Red Bull’, which is believed to be MDMA, and we are concerned there may be others who have also taken this.
“Whilst the cause of death has not been confirmed and we are keeping an open mind as to whether the substance caused a bad reaction or an overdose, we would advise anyone who has also taken it to seek medical advice.

Officers were called to The Assembly at around 5am after a report that a teenager had become seriously ill.
He died later in hospital and his next of kin have been informed, police said.
The 22-year-old woman remains in hospital in a serious condition.
The sold-event event was advertised as being hosted by “DnB Allstars” and featured artists Ben Snow, AC13 and Hybrid Minds.
Mr Hill urged anyone who attended the event and knows someone who took the “red bull” pills to “check in on them to ensure they are okay”.
He added: “If anyone requires urgent health advice, please contact your GP or call 111. In an emergency, please visit A&E or call 999.”
