China has urged Japan to “rectify its actions” as it seeks to enforce export restrictions on chip manufacturing equipment.
The Chinese Commerce Ministry said Beijing is highly concerned by Japan’s decision to tighten export controls on at least 23 types of equipment used in making semiconductors, state broadcaster CGTN reported on Tuesday.
Japan announced the move last week, saying it was driven by “growing concerns over security.”
A spokesperson for the Chinese ministry said Tokyo’s decision violates the World Trade Organization (WTO) framework and will severely impact the stability of global supply chains, read the report.
The official said China has filed a lawsuit with the WTO against Japan, and will take “resolute measures to safeguard its legitimate rights,” the report added.
