Benfica announced Friday that head coach Roger Schmidt renewed his contract with the club.
Schmidt signed with the Portuguese side until June 30, 2026.
“It’s a great honor to be part of Benfica. To be honest, at the beginning I didn’t expect to sign a new contract so soon, but I do it with 100% conviction. I feel that I’m in the right place and I’m very pleased that Benfica believes in me,” he said.
Schmidt, who won the 2014 league and domestic title in Austria with Salzburg, took the helm of Benfica last July and is looking to clinch a title with the team.
