Approximately 140 firefighters are tackling the blaze at the industrial bakery Speedibake in the city’s Westgate retail park.

Witnesses who had planned to watch the film Jumanji at the Cineworld opposite the bakery were told to wait in the cinema.

Connor Strachan, 19, said there were nearly 100 people there, some of whom had been evacuated from the Mecca Bingo also opposite Speedibake.

He said: “We were eventually let out, a lot of the other buildings were evacuated too. There was a lot of black smoke, it was quite chaotic.”
